Day One Hundred and Eighty-Two: One Final Note

Tonight the Lawrence City Band performed music in celebration of Independence Day during their weekly Wednesday night summer concert.

The band, which performs in the gazebo in South Park (now known as the William Kelly Bandstand), is led by former KU Director of Bands Bob Foster, who is seen here about to conduct the final downbeat of a John Philip Sousa march.

Tonight's concert was the first I had heard in quite a while, and it was well worth the visit. Emily and I - along with several hundred other people - left quite satisfied, having spent a perfect 75°, windless, bugless evening hearing some of our favorite patriotic tunes.

Now bring on the fireworks!
