Day One Hundred and Twenty-Three: Hoop Dreams

Meet Ted.

When you stand 6 feet, 7 inches tall, being called "little" might seem like quite a stretch. But even though physically he towers over his oldest sister (who is by no means short), at 14 years old Ted still plays the role of little brother to Emily.

Of course, on his basketball team Ted plays a different role: big man.

Ted's All Iowa Attack team came down to Lawrence this weekend to play in the 2009 Jayhawk Invitational basketball tournament.

The tournament is a chance for fourteen to seventeen-year-old players to develop their skills by competing against various teams from the Midwest while showcasing their talents for college recruiters.

Though he is only 14, Ted is already being heavily recruited to KU by two former Jayhawks: Emily and me.

He still has a few years before he has to make that type of decision. In the meantime he can continue to develop his already impressive arsenal of basketball weaponry.

And (most likely) grow a few more inches.

What impresses me most about Ted is that, despite the amount of hours he dedicates to basketball, he still finds time to be a normal kid who plays other sports, hangs out with friends, and spends time with family.

So keep an eye out for Ted in the not-too-distant future - he just may be dunking on an HDTV near you!

In the meantime, today's picture will help Emily and I keep Jaydreamin' (the title of the painting after which this picture was modeled).
